The military-run Viettel mobile phone company has set up a new SMS broadcast system to increase capacity by five times in a bid to prevent its mobile network being jammed during the Tet holiday.

 
 
   
The military-run Viettel mobile phone company has set up a new SMS broadcast system to increase capacity by five times in a bid to prevent its mobile network being jammed during the Tet holiday.

Viettel said it will also set up mobile broadcast stations near festival areas to try to ensure services for its mobile phone subscribers.

The company now has 7,500 transmitters and an extra 19 switchboards to satisfy the demands of 25 million subscribers during next week’s Lunar New Year holiday.

In related news, state-run Vietnam Posts and Telecommunication Corporation directed its two mobile phone operators, VinaPhone and MobiFone, to ensure their networks aren’t jammed during the Tet holiday.

The corporation urged customers to used fixed telephones instead of mobile ones during peak hours.
