PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline and two power plants inaugurated   2008-12-27 - Nhan Dan

 A ceremony to inaugurate the PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline and the Ca Mau 1 and 2 Power Plants in Khanh An commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province was organised on December 27 by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, Petrovietnam.

The PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline and the Ca Mau 1 and 2 Power Plants are part of the Ca Mau Gas-Power-Fertiliser Complex, a key national project which Petrovietnam has been assigned to be the investor.

According to Pham Van Dinh, Petrovietnam Deputy General Director and head of the Management Board of the Ca Mau Gas-Power-Fertiliser Complex, with the bringing into operation of the Nhon Trach 1 power plant in Dong Nai province and the Ca Mau 1 and 2 power plants in the dry season of 2008, power plants owned by Petrovietnam has generated over 10 billion kWh a year, accounting for 15% of the country’s total power production.

The Ca Mau Gas-Power-Fertiliser Complex has been built on a total area of over 200 hectares. Along with the PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline and the Ca Mau 1 and 2 Power Plants, the complex also consists of Ca Mau fertiliser plant which is being built and other important works for the locality such as supporting infrastructure facilities and residential areas for re-settlement of the locals and a new urban area for employees of the complex.

The Ca Mau 2 and Ca Mau 1 power plants, which began operating in March, has a total investment capital of US$860 million and a total capacity of 1,500 MW and generate 9 billion kWh annually for the national grid.

The PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline has a total length of over 300 kilometres and have a transportation capacity of 2 billion cubic metres of gas per year. It has been built by Viet Nam-Russian Oil and Gas Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro). Total investment for the project is US$300 million.
