Japanese entrepreneurs arrive to talk trade, investment 2009-03-03 - TN
Executives from 63 Japanese companies arrived in Vietnam Sunday for a six-day visit to explore investment and business opportunities, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) said in a statement. JETRO, the Kansai Economic Federation (KANKEIREN) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry are organizing the mission led by Hiroshi Shinozuma, chairman of KANKEIREN, and Michinaka Nakatomi, president of JETRO. The firms represented are in the manufacturing, mechanical engineering, trade, consultancy, information technology and other sectors. The delegation, which toured the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and other industrial parks in Hanoi Monday, will participate in the third Vietnam-Japan Economic Forum before heading south. The visitors will attend the same forum in Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow before visiting some industrial zones in Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces. JETRO Chairman Yasuo Hayashi said the visit reflects Japanese firms’ continuing view of Vietnam as a good investment destination. Despite the economic downturn, the flow of Japanese investment into the country would increase in the years to come if the investment environment continues to improve, he said. Last year, two-way trade exceeded US$16 billion, surpassing the $15 billion target set by the two governments for 2010. |
